Facts broken after discovering a virtual host in 1.15

Description

Before a host is discovered, the UI page for facts loads fine (no facts shown yet). If I discover a host (just so happens to be a basic VM from vSphere) the host is discovered fine, i can see the facts on the discovered host page fine, however (1) now the facts page shows "Oops, we're sorry but something went wrong undefined method `name' for nil:NilClass" (i'll paste the stack trace below), and (2) Unsure if related but I cannot list facts with the newest version of hammer, ` hammer discovery facts --id 1 ` gives no output but the headers.

Hello, unable to reproduce. Can you log onto FDI and send me output of the "FACTERLIB=/usr/share/fdi/facts/ facter --json" command? I will try to discover this server, it looks like there is some fact with an empty value or one that cannot be parsed correctly. Do you have any custom facts there?

It looks like you have some facts which lost their relation to a host. Have you played around with foreman database via SQL or Rails console recently? There should be a foreign key, what database platform are you on? You can list these fact values using:

FactValue.where(:host => nil)
=> []

Then you can delete all orphan facts like that:

FactValue.destroy_all(:host => nil)

Hello Lukas, Nothing custom and no messing with the database. This is a fresh install for a dev environment. I'm just using the default internal database.

Facts from FDI are attached. Looks fine to me? I don't see any blank names or weird characters.

Josh, you need to call the statement "FactValue.where(:host => nil)" after you encounter the error. I can clearly see from the backtrace that your fact value does not have a host assigned (it's nil). We need to find out which one is that.

Correct that's what I did. See the screenshot, am I connecting to the console correctly?

Regarding dev / production, I meant it's purpose is for development and freshly installed. I am running rails as the default production env. Looks like it's postgresql.

Looks like I found something that will help. I needed to make some progress on having this 1.15 environment up this week so I focused on it all day. I figured out how to use mysql as the backend which I am much more familiar with. Once I did that, I found the facts_values table. And I found that when a host is discovered 4 of the facts are NULL. If I manually edit these rows to have a value, the facts web ui page finally loads for me! See attached.

These 4 rows apparently correspond to:
ID | name
12 | processors
18 | os
21 | os::release
60 | dhcp_servers

Does this shed any light on it? Any way to workaround?

Further, It appears this doesn't totally solve it. I noticed on the web ui page the "Host" column of Fact Values page is all "N/A", as is `hammer fact list` from cli. This is a problem for me because I need access to the facts via `hammer discovery facts --id ##` which is still empty I looked in the database in fact_values.host_id and it does appear to be setting that key correctly.

I don't know how to help you here, you are messing around with your database. Looks like data is broken, I suggest you to delete all facts, this will delete everything from all discovered hosts AND all hosts!

[15] pry(main)> FactValue.delete_all
=> 12
[16] pry(main)> FactName.delete_all
=> 3993

Then click on Refresh Facts for all discovered hosts to repopulate or rediscover them.
